Wherein we thought of it before Shyamalan

Crypticon calls, and when they called, we decided to check it out!

The Let’s Make a Movie! workshop seems more popular everywhere we go, but Crypticon was going to be a challenge. Right from the beginning, there were scheduling issues, and instead of the normal number of parts to the workshop, we had to do it in only two sessions. Yikes!

Right before the first session, evidently, another guest demanded a room change and we got stuck in a room without an AV system, a projector, chairs, or any instructions to any of the staff where we were. Eventually, we put up hastily-built handmade signs at the old room and people started coming in (a testament to the power of people wanting to make their own movies, darn it!).

But from that awkward beginning, we nevertheless managed to work up a reasonably decent story that, in execution, came out even better than we expected!

It Came from the Elevator! is a new story — not a parody — and a fine psychological horror story to boot. With only six people appearing to help make the movie, we made it — using only those six people.

And it was good.

So good, in fact, that a Major Director (we shall not say his name) has produced a movie that is basically a steal right from us. Now, of course, I’m sure he didn’t actually steal from us, but let’s just pretend that, oh, we touched the Cosmic Whangdoodle at the same time, but we acted much faster than he did, what with his millions of dollars at stake.

In It Came from the Elevator!, six strangers board an elevator, quietly keeping to themselves. Suddenly, the elevator comes to a stop, obviously between floors, and obviously by some mistake.

One-by-one, each person in the elevator devolves into their own twisted fantasy life to explain what’s happened, to figure out what they must do, and to plan for their eventual future. It’s a madcap jumble of thoughts and feelings, only interrupted by the elevator as it just-as-suddenly continues on its way.

However, it’s not soon enough, because one of the passengers has a secret, and it’s too late to stop the inevitable…
